Description:The impact of stress on digestive function highlights the connection between the gastrointestinal and the neuroendocrine systems. Many digestive disorders are directly affected by our moods, nervous disposition, and the allostatic load we deal with in our lives. Connecting our understanding of the enteric nervous system, the gut microbiota, digestive enzyme secretions, stress hormones and the immune system can be a valuable tool for the clinician. Discussion includes relevant functional lab analysis, botanical approaches for digestive and neuroendcrine health, case history review and how to treat patients on a variety of pharmaceuticals.
Botanical and naturopathic medicines include: Glutamine, Lactobacillus species, Astragalus, Eluetherococcus, Schisandra, Rhodiola, Withania, Ulmus fulva, Althaea officinalis, Astragalus root, Matricaria recutita, Berberine herbs, Allium sativum, Glycyrrhiza and more.
Speaker Biography:
A clinical medical herbalist, Mary Bove practices family medicine in Brattleboro, Vermont. She is the author of An Encyclopedia of Natural Healing for Children and Infants, and recently produced an iPhone App, Momma Nature’s Food Pharm Guide. More....
