Chanchal Cabrera Biography

Chanchal Cabrera

Chanchal practices holistic, integrated health care. She believes that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts and that the patient has an innate ability to heal. Consultations address issues of diet and nutrition, exercise, rest, play and laughter, prayer and spirituality. Customized and personalized herbal prescriptions and aromatherapy blends are recommended according to individual need. Chanchal encourages patients to fully inform all health care providers of their treatment choices and to create a healing team around themselves.

Chanchal is trained in the western bio-medical model of health and she works mostly within the western paradigm. She can read blood work, order hormone or other tests as needed, describe the processes of pathology and can discuss cases with physicians if necessary. Chanchal is trained in the Vega technique of electro-dermal assessment for food and inhalant sensitivities, Candida levels, parasite infestation and innate organ stresses and strengths. In addition she has trained in Ayurveda and other energetic systems of medicine and uses some of those techniques in her assessment and treatment protocols.

Chanchal completed a four-year, full-time training in herbal medicine in 1987 and is a professional member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists (UK) and of the American Herbalists Guild. In her clinical practice Chanchal utilizes herbal medicines, nutritional counseling, aromatherapy and other complementary therapies. Chanchal has designed, developed and implemented two professional clinical herbal education programs and currently sits on the board of advisors of Bastyr Naturopathic University (Seattle) as a senior curriculum developer and on the board of advisors of Dominion Herbal College (Vancouver, BC). She lectures internationally on medical herbalism, publishes widely in peer-reviewed journals and since 1997 has been a consultant to the Canadian Ministry of Health in Ottawa, advising on issues relating to herbal medicine and natural health products. Chanchal is a certified Master Gardener, has recently published a book on Fibromyalgia and just completed a Master of Science degree in herbal medicine.
