Southwest Conference on Botanical Medicine 2005, Tape #7

Title: Food, Medicine and Poison: Novel Conceptual and Clinical Tools for the Botanical Treatment of Cancer

Speaker: Jonathan Treasure

A philosophical discourse on the theories of JM Thurston, and the therapeutic use of botanicals for restoring health.  The body acts upon foods, medicine acts upon the body.  Many substances can be both food and medicine depending on the amount and delivery system.  Poisons abound in our environment and diet in this modern age.  Explaining the food/medicine/poison model to cancer patients makes it easier for them to grasp that everything they eat from now on must be medicine in order for them to reverse the progression of the disease.

Certain botanicals including Panax ginseng, Eleutherococcus and Rhodiola can be described as molecular multitaskers, since they are adaptogens which produce non-specific, non-toxic and normalizing effects on the whole physiology.  This wide-ranging talk also addresses the positive role botanicals can play when combined with chemotherapy, for enhancing chemotherapeutic actions and protecting the body from harm.
