The majority of patients seen in clinical practice have chronic complaints. All of these conditions are influenced by a disruption in the hypothalamic- pituitary- adrenal (HPA) axis and that system must be addressed to alleviate the impact of imbalance on the immune and endocrine system. Symptoms of stress maladaption are very broad and influence all aspects of life. Adaptogens act by enhancing the ability of the body to adapt to stress. This lecture describes the therapeutic uses of astragalus, Cordyceps, licorice, rehmannia and other adaptogens for restoring the resilience of the body and mind.
