Title: The Prevention and Treatment of Neurological Disorders with Botanicals

Speaker: Robert Rountree, MD

The current epidemic of Alzheimer's disease in the aging population of the US is the main topic of this presentation.  The pathophysiology of the disease is described.  Nontoxic interventions include herbal and nutrient antioxidants for the brain which can help increase mental clarity,  reduce inflammation and modulate the metabolism, the endocrine system and neurotransmitter function.  The physiological effect of neuroprotective herbs such as ginkgo, ashwagandha, brahmi, Siberian ginseng and others are described.  Neuroprotective nutrients such as Omega-3 EFA's, DHA, acetyl-L-carnitine and inositol are included in the discussion.
